Advanced ceramics and glasses are often used in harsh environments where no other material will serve.  IST's technical staff is experienced in the development and processing of high-performance ceramics and glasses.  IST's efforts in ceramics and glass include both bulk materials and advanced coatings. Examples include solar-cell coverglasses for satellites and thermal barrier coatings for high-performance turbine engines.
