These human-rated impact facilities can be used to evaluate the effects of impact acceleration on human and manikin subjects, and to define the effectiveness of operational and prototype protection equipment and concepts for improving personnel safety.

Over 13,000 human, manikin and equipment tests completed.

Design criteria/evaluation methods for crash, emergency escape, and protection systems.

Define biodynamic response of humans and manikins to mechanical force environments.  Evaluate protective effectiveness and structural integrity of operational and developmental crew protection techniques.

VIBRATION

Six Degree Of Freedom (SIXMODE)

The SIXMODE Vibration System is a human-rated state-of-the-art six degree of freedom vibration simulator capable of single- and combined-axis vibrations in the three translational directions (X, Y, and Z) and in the three angular directions (Roll, Pitch, and Yaw). The servo-hydraulic system has a double amplitude of 6 in. and operates in the frequency range of DC to 100 Hz with a peak linear acceleration of 4 g peak at 4 Hz and above. The maximum payload is 2000 lbf. The maximum angular acceleration used for humans is 15 rad/sec2.  The table dimensions are 6 ft. X 6 ft.

The system is capable of generating a variety of waveforms including sinusoidal, sum-of-sines, and random signatures through menu-driven software.  The data acquisition system can collect data at a maximum sampling rate of 100 kHz depending on the number of active channels.  The system is currently configured to simultaneously collect up to 32 channels of data.

Single Axis Vibration System (SIXMODE)

The Single Axis Servohydraulic Vibration System is a human-rated vertical vibration apparatus capable of generating vertical motion in the frequency range of DC to approximately 100 Hz.  The system has a double amplitude of 6 in. and force limit of 9000 lbf. The system can reach an acceleration level of approximately 4 g peak. The table measures 3 ft. X 3 ft. and has a maximum payload of 900 lbf.

The software is capable of generating a variety of waveforms including sinusoidal, sum-of-sines, and random signatures for regeneration at the table through menu-driven software.  The data acquisition equipment can collect data at a maximum sampling rate of 100 kHz depending on the number of active channels.  The equipment is currently configured to simultaneously collect up to 32 channels of data.

The Single Axis Servohydraulic Vibration System is capable of carrying a heavy payload.  Therefore, it is suited for evaluating the coupling effects of heavier equipment, such as military seats, on human biodynamic and performance responses.

ANTHROPOMETRY

The Infoscitex/RHPA team has over 100 years of combined experience using traditional anthropometry, 3-D anthropometry, advanced 3-D multi-object computer analysis, multivariate statistics, and other custom engineering methods to solve complex fit, performance and design problems.

3-D Whole Body Scanner

The 3-D Whole Body Scanner has a resolution of 2-5mm and scans the entire body in approximately 17 seconds.  3-D scanning is a new technology that allows us to capture the full shape and posture variability of the human body as well as to measure the geometric relationship to crew-stations and equipment.

3-D Head Scanner

The 3-D Head Scanner has a resolution of 0.5mm and takes approximately 15 seconds for a complete head scan.  This provides higher resolution information for small equipment items including helmets, earcups, and oxygen masks.

3-D Faro Arm

The Faro Arm is a 3-D coordinate measuring machine that enables the reverse engineering of aircraft cockpits and crew stations.  More importantly, it allows the digitizing of anatomical landmarks to record subject position and posture at rest or during a task.  These digital data are used in conjunction with traditional accommodation studies which use a subject pool to generate statistical models that define the anthropometric minimums and maximums for the crew station.

Fit Mapping

Fit Mapping is a systematic approach including realistic fit criteria, quantitative fit measurement, and sequential data analysis to provide better fitting and better performing protective equipment with fewer modifications and lower cost.
